The Wiltshire United Area

About Us

We have :-

•         Over 800 members

•         7 United Churches, 11 Methodist and  3 URC

•         6 Sector  stipendiary ministers

•         2 non-stipendiary ministers

•         9 supernumeraries and retired ministers.

•         3 Ministers in other appointments

•         an area administrator

•         enthusiastic local preachers

•         team ministry with a supportive Executive committee

The churches are organised in 6 sectors, each of which has its own full-time stipendiary minister, with additional support from Methodist and URC non-stipendiary and supernumerary ministers.

There are close links with the many local Anglican churches throughout the Area. In all the towns we play a key role in ministerial fraternals and local families of churches. In a number of villages, services are regularly shared with our Anglican friends.

The Wiltshire United Area was formed in 2009 when the two previous united areas - West Wilts and Mid-Wilts combined, sharing a common constitution. This stipulates that:-

•      the Area Meeting serves as both Methodist circuit meeting and URC Area of Ecumenical Co-operation. 

•      there shall, at any one time, be at least one Methodist and one URC minister.

•      the Area Meeting appoints the Area Chair (from either denomination) who acts as the lead minister for both denominations.

•     the position of Area Chairman is rotated on a 3 year basis, although the incumbent may be re-elected for a second three year term.
