AN INTRODUCTION TO WESLEY ROAD METHODIST CHURCH, TROWBRIDGE
The first Methodist Church in Trowbridge was opened in 1836 in Manvers Street. When this was too full, the vision for a Church in Newtown came to life and Wesley Road Church was built in 1872 for the cost of £1,641 2s. 10d.
In 1881 the school rooms were built and in 1898 a Day School began meeting here. Later this transferred to Newtown School.
In 1930 the Church was refurbished, and again in the early 1990’s, when the school room was extended and the church pews removed to make a flexible and pleasant worship area.
Today the church has 86 members, and many more people who are involved in its life in one way or another. This is reflected in the various activities run at or by the Church, both for children and adults.
The Aims of the Church are described in detail on our Church website and outline what we believe the purposes of God for the Church continue to be.
