Christian Aid Climate Justice Campaign.

From 8th September the Rev Alison Morley from Melksham United Church and her son undertook to walk 88 miles to raise money for the Christian Aid ‘Time for Climate Justice’ Campaign. They made their way by  walking right across the United Area from Corsham to Warminster and back to Calne and then Avebury, staying on church floors and walking with members from the Churches who were sponsored for their part.

Supporting Christian Aid in their radical call for justice in trade, energy resources and sustainable development is very much part of the mission of Melksham United Church. The need to change our lifestyles and be a voice for the poor and marginalised is at the heart of what we do.

A simple ‘Hunger Lunch’ was held on September 8th  in United Church and Anna Potts from Regional Christian aid encouraged us on our way.

Anna writes;-

“Christian Aid’s Time for Climate Justice campaign is based on clear scientific information about climate change and its effects, as well as on our work with people in poverty and what they have shared with us of their experiences.

Depending on future carbon emissions, we will see between 1.1 and 6.4 degrees celsius of warming by the end of the century.

The world’s poorest are on the frontline. They often depend on subsistence agriculture and live in areas vulnerable to drought, high winds and rising sea levels.

Climate change is adding further risk and unpredictability. Conditions are worsening and weather is becoming more extreme and less predictable.

We need to take action.”
